Abstract
The author discusses three central themes in Bruno Trentin's "The City of Work". The first theme deals with culture and its indispensable relationship with action in the realm of politics and labour unions. The second concerns the interpretation of the past as a repertory of possibilities and alternatives. The third coincides with Trentin's vision focusing on rights and equal opportunities for workers - both men and women - as persons, a vision which contrasts with the tradition of a leftist culture prevalently oriented towards the redistributive egalitarianism of results.
