Abstract

The concept of gnosis is central in Voegelin's latest works and is generally used to hint at the totalitarian and immanentist outcome of political modernity. According also to unpublished texts, the Author analyses the genealogy of the concept of gnosis in Voegelin's works and the way in which this concept is related to the context of the history of religions in the last Voegelin. The Author affirms that with the concept of gnosis Voegelin doesn't want to condemn modernity as a whole, but simply to show the extreme results of its corruption.
