Abstract

The Author discusses three recent books on tolerance and stresses the central role played by the concept of tolerance in the building of the modern State. The present debate about tolerance shows the political crisis of the State and its difficulty in responding to the needs of recognition coming from individuals, groups and communities excluded from citizenship.
