Abstract
The author proposes a redefinition of Humboldtian political thought in the light of his early essays and his maturity memories. This interpretation of Humboldtian political philosophy is grounded on the mutually constitutive connection between the individual and the community he or she belongs to. Within this perspective, a comparison with J.S. Mill's essay "On Liberty" is very productive.
