Abstract

The origins of the Anglo-Saxon geopolitical thought seem related to an agonistic disposition. They show a leaning toward a polemical position mostly preoccupied with the command of the space. Carl Schmitt gave to this position the meaning of a «conservative need for geopolitical security». While directly referring to Alfred Mahan reflections on sea power, this is also a valuable characterization of Alford Mackinder ideas. But this need for geopolitical security gives the impression of some conceptual contrasts, mainly with the emergence of a global world and the definition of its spatial liberties.
