Abstract
In Leo Strauss' essay on Xenophon's "Hiero", the tyrannical city is described with reference to Plato's "city of pigs" in "Resp". II, 372 c-d. This article investigates Alexandre Kojève's position in his review of Strauss' book and the connection between tyranny, philosophy and homogeneity in the political thought of the Russian-French philosopher, particularly focusing on the sources of the dispute in Xenophon and Plato and on his study, "The notion of Authority", written in 1942.
