Abstract

This article addresses the question of whether clauses do bear nominal agreement feature specification in Romance, and if so, what the feature set must be. To this end, agreement patterns with subject clauses and pronominals resuming clausal constituents are examined. The conclusion is reached that negative specification of Phi-features on clausal arguments (Picallo, 2000) results in default agreement (3rd person singular). However, additional factors affecting the basic agreement pattern are identified and discussed.
