Abstract
Transferring theoretical constructs from a component of the grammar to another does not always lead to useful results. The paper deals with the transferring of the notions of "head", "movement" and "X-bar structure" from syntax to morphology. The analysis shows that the notion of head, though slightly modified, can be successfully applied to word formation, whereas the notion of movement turns out to be irrelevant and the X-bar structure can be only partially exploited.
