Abstract
New generations are born and raised in an increasingly digitalized context. Most recent research on text reading and comprehension has examined how new digital media change the way we read. This contribution first illustrates what we know about students’ digital competencies and the digital assessment of their reading competencies. The article then introduces the two main research areas in this field. One regards the selection, evaluation, comprehension, and integration of information read on the Internet, which may present conflicting points of view on the same controversial topic. The other research area deals with text comprehension in relation to the reading medium, traditional (paper) or digital (screen).
