Abstract
The degree courses in psychology in Rome and Padua were born in a climate of strong social and political tension in Italy. A systematic training in psychology was considered the essential condition for solving the psychosocial problems that had emerged in the 1960s and 1970s. Fifty years later, the need emerges for a revision of the university courses and professional training in the light of both the development of psychological research and the demands for psychological interventions in the new social context typical of third millennium Western countries
