Abstract
Is it possible to recover a lost memory? This discussion aims to reaffirm some methodological elements for the psychological practice, to be scientifically qualified. Important questions about Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing impact on human autobiographical memory are discussed, examining advantages and disadvantages of the technique. Available data a) do not support the existence of a human ability to recover repressed memories, b) support the EMDR implementation in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and c) call for caution regarding the technique implementation in other intervention contexts. Implications concern the scientific community and the clinical and psycho-forensic practice.
