Abstract
In the 1924 article republished here, Musatti reports his research on perceptual effects that a few years earlier Benussi had named «stereokinetic phenomena». Musatti provides us with a definition which is not devoid of risks and finds in orientation stability the fundamental mediator of stereokinetic transformations. Discussing the stereokinetic truncated cone, Musatti refers to a phenomenological category that forty years later Michotte and collaborators would qualify as amodal presence «à découvert». The 1924 article contains – besides a first analysis of the potential theoretical meaning of the stereokinetic cone height – an observational protocol where perceptual events are described as tight interlacements of primary, secondary and tertiary qualities.
