Abstract

This paper presents verbal association norms for 294 words of the Italian language. The norms were collected by presenting 30 subjects with a target word and asking them to respond with the first three words they could think of. All responses were then transcribed and ranked according to their frequency. The frequency with which associations were given as first response was also recorded. Direct and inverse associations obtained in the work were computed. Furthermore, a comparison with both the existing norms for Italian and the most recently published norms for English and French have been performed.
