Abstract
The cognitive development do not only proceed through new acquisitions; it also implies the inhibition of the old ones. Our experimental research has the aim to investigate the competence to inhibit automatic procedures and its evolution during development, considering the Stroop Effect. Interference of the Stroop Effect, reading ability, errors were investigated among 302 subjects (159 males, 143 females) of 7, 9, 11 years. With the increasing of the age, interference decreases: a major decrease is pointed out from 7 to 9 years than from 9 to 11. Gender differences have not any role.
