Abstract
The present paper starts with a discussion aimed at framing implicit memory in terms of automaticity vs. unconscious remembering, discussing also the use of direct and indirect memory tasks. Afterwards, the dominant strategies for the investigation of implicit memory are reviewed. Implicit memory effects in social cognition are subsequently addressed adopting two complementary points of view: the influence of implicit memory on social judgment and social behavior, and the influence of social variables on implicit remembering. Finally, the implications of the research reviewed for our daily life are considered.
