Abstract
Aim of this review is to present an overview of the literature on job burnout, exploring the main approaches, the most used measures, researches that have investigated the constituent factors, determinants and consequences, as well as the main types of interventions and preventions. In particular the intent is to review the most recent studies, that extend to different organizations (as productive organizations) the applicability of the construct, traditionally referred to human and educational services. Extending the field of research and intervention, we propose an approach that emphasizes the promotion of job engagement, considered as the positive opposite of job burnout, of individual and organizational well being.
