Abstract
This review has the purpose to present the application of Social Identity Theory and Self-Categorization Theory to work and organizational phenomena by taking into account theoretical and empirical contributions from international literature of the last fifteen years. After a short introduction concerning the traditional theoretical model, a critical synthesis about conceptual developments and empirical results on the following topics is proposed: organisational identity and identification; nested identity, groups, mergers and acquisitions; leadership, influence and authority; motivation and performance. Regarding these topics, this approach, in contrast with others approaches more focused on individual variables, shows the relevance of social-psychological and group's processes.
