Abstract
Research on the university students' study habits and on their relationships with academic achievement and strategic approach is reviewed. Characteristics of studying at university and strategic, metacognitive and motivational aspects of successful students are presented. Results show that even university students could adopt strategies not very effective to succeed and hence they could have study difficulties. Finally, ways to support university students' study methods and habits are suggested. The importance of metacognitive and self-directed approaches is stressed.
