Abstract
So far e-government policies in Italy have received little attention from the political science researchers. Since e-government is still in its early stages and seen as promising, political and institutional actors have initiated the remodernization of public administration, activated new operatiional procedures and experimenting innovative policy models in the past ten years. This process has essentially transformed the basic relationship between politics and polity, in a most definitive way. This article attempts to re-focus the analysis on the institutional field: a closer look at e-government policies in Italy unveils the emergence of a delicate but stable balance between government and governance.
