Abstract
This obituary of Siro Lombardini recalls his scientific, operative and public activities and gives an obviously preliminary appraisal of his main innovative contributions to a surprisingly long list of economic issues such as: theory of the firm and markets, supply and demand disequilibrium, modern monopolies and economic growth, disequilibrium growth and computational economics, national and regional planning. Of particular relevance is also the attention he devoted to the great financial crisis of 1987 which he closely compared with the great slump of 1929, with annotations that have become almost prophetic if one thinks of the current depression. A final section is devoted to his numerous elaborations on the scope and moral aspects of economics.
