Abstract

In this paper, we provide a juridical and sociological perspective on the issue of disability in the workplace. To do so, we use the results of a wide-ranging empirical survey that was developed within the firms of the province of Brescia, allowing both for the employers and employees’ answers. Our study shows the need to promote a social understanding of disability, which should overtake the medical-health facet of Law 68/99, only aimed at stating the types of disability on an administrative level. To support the aforementioned “broaderµ perspective on disability, we suggest some hypotheses centered on the various forms of inclusion, by elaborating the most significant data of the empirical survey and examining them with regard to the Italian legislative attention originated from the 2006 UN Convention on the rights of people with disabilities.
