Abstract

As a background to the four essays in the section, the contribution emphasises the complexity of the relationship between humans and the Planet Earth in our time and outlines some of the recent debates. The essay recalls the philosophical sense and meaning of some key concepts in this area (nature, human being, person, environment, climate, ecosystem, etc.) and points to the importance of the idea of precaution.
