Abstract
The essay considers the main theoretical contents of "Tristes Tropiques" by Claude Lévi-Strauss sixty years since its publication. The report of the famous ethnographic expeditions to the Amazon rainforest in the 1930s is intertwined, in the essay, with that of another exploration: the epistemological search, which leads Lévi-Strauss to the foundation, on Kantian premises, of structuralism.
