Abstract
The paper adresses the topic of death, both from the point of view of the developments of medical-scientific knowledge and from the perspective of the ethical and legal implications related to the issue of "brain death" and the transplant of organs. The paper provides a reading of the scientific works by Massimini and Tononi confronted with the metaphysical works by Caracciolo.
