Abstract
Discussing of Welfare State in Europe is at this moment somehow like a memorial event. Legal, political and economic factors have weakened its original features which in Europe played a very important role against social insecurity and marginalization. The theoretical ground of social protection is the principle of solidarity that aims to ensure specific social rights, contrasting the many faces of vulnerability. Social protection, secured by State, gives equal opportunities to live a dignified life, while the lack of social intervention is the main cause of social uneasiness especially when austerity policies cut dramatically public expenditure.
