Abstract
The essay aims to reflect on the legal, ethical and political issues concerning the euthanasia and the assisted suicide. In a liberal, democratic and pluralist society the terminally ill's will and his "right to die", freely chosen, must prevail on a communitarian bond, that could be also conceived as a "duty to live"; nonetheless, the real, thorny issue to solve is the safeguard of the weak subjects against the possible manipulations of their will.
