Abstract
Since the beginning of the 18th parliamentary term, President Mattarella has devoted several speeches and communiqués to highlighting how his predecessors, for all their differences, interpreted their powers and their position within the constitutional system. An underlying assumption of these speeches is that the history of the Presidents of the Republic and their understandings of their office can be interpreted in terms of continuity.
