Abstract

The Author describes the powers and the role played by the President of the Republic in the light of the recent evolution of the Italian political and institutional system. The electoral laws and the political system in general have undergone significant changes over the last few years and these changes have inevitably effected the relationship between institutional bodies. It is for this reason that the Author examines the way each President has exercised his powers so as to maintain his role has guardian of the Constitution. At the same time the Author also outlines the evolution of relationship between Parliament and Government and the relationship between the latter and the President of the Republic.
