Abstract
The Palestinian legal system is one of the most complex in the world. The fragmented set of family law provisions still causes significant discrimination against Palestinian women. The purpose of this article is to outline the framework of family law and sharia courts in the Palestinian Occupied Territories, focusing on the intense debate and attempts to reform current legislation in recent years, towards the approval of a Palestinian personal status law.
