Abstract
The age-old dilemma faced by the rich young man in the Gospel passage (MT 19:16-23) concerning the provision he received, and the lapidary comment with which Jesus dismissed the incident, have always questioned Christian theology. The Protestant tradition, predominantly of Calvinist persuasion, has tried, very cautiously and perhaps beyond its real intentions, to address this issue. Wealth and the professional commitment aimed at achieving it are not necessarily signs of self-exaltation, but the possible response to a vocation
