Abstract

The Federation of Damanhur Communities, a self-styled spiritual community settled near Turin, since the beginning adopted an internal alternative currency: the Credito. Originally, the Credito was simply an economic tool, which allowed the exchanges inside the community, using this alternative currency the members could accumulate the legal one in savings. Over time, however, other functions of the complementary currency become more prominent, such as magical, ethical, and solidaristic, in relation to which the debate on the future of Credito, from its dematerialisation to its relationship with crypto-currencies, is conducted today.
