Abstract
The aging demographic of society has created the need to explore ways to age well and to imagine social policies to promote the safety, participation and health of elderly, the risk being a marginalization of elderly persons. It is important to shape laws and norms that address the possible discrimination of elderly people. At the same time, we need to grant empowerment to the elders while shaping rules that take into consideration their vulnerability. The task is not easy. The issues has been tackled with different approaches in different legal systems. It is important, as well, to consider the inputs that religious laws can bring to the filed, being those systems deeply intertwined with the role of people in society
