Abstract
This contribution aims to examine the provisions of Art. 17 TFEU in the light of three fundamental normative values of the European Union's legal system: the principle of conferral, the respect for Member States' national identities, the principle of the respect for fundamental freedoms and in particular for religious freedom. These elements provide for essential indications as regards the correct interpretation of Art. 17. Such an analysis is carried out along with the examination of the praxis - although it is a scarce one - of its implementation.
