Abstract
Full respect for the principle of pluralism, in both the Italian society and in the Italian schools, requires not only reform of the law on citizenship for children of foreign parents, but also education for citizenship within the framework of an inter-cultural vision which includes the religious dimension as an important part. As also shaped by many documents of the Council of Europe, inter-cultural dialogue helps to reinforce democratic citizenship, to promote the understanding of religious symbols, and to respond to the queston of fundamentalism.
