Abstract

Starting form different points of view, the authors look at the varied meanings and use of “sexµ and “genderµ, as well as at the recent growing tendency of giving room to the concepts of “neutralµ and “transparencyµ. The limits and dangers of an apparently neutral approach are highlighted in particular by considering the corporate reporting models, on the one hand, and the use of algorithms on the other. Finally, the authors draw attention to the need to return to reflect on the notions of gender and of discrimination, together with the need not to abandon positive action policies.
