Abstract
The essay first focuses on the different meanings of precariousness and security of job, moving from the current opinion according to which job security is the contrary of precariousness. Afterwards, the Author tries to assess the real extent of job security taking into account the different levels of protection - provided for by Italian law, in act and "in fieri", as well as by some recent bills - against dismissals for economic reasons. In the whole, the paper looks at these issues from a gender perspective.
