Abstract

After having shortly described the functioning of the main ILO supervisory mechanisms, the Authors present several episodes in which these mechanisms have been strongly criticised by the Employers' Group and by some Governments. Emphasising the fundamental role of the supervisory mechanisms for the effectiveness of the ILO regulations and of the entire ILO system, the Authors indicate then the reasons why these mechanisms should be reformed and strengthened. In the final part, the Authors provide some examples of the role of ILO supervisory bodies' decisions in the multilevel dialogue among courts.
