Abstract

Recently, the Valle d’Aosta Region has been confronted with the aporias of the referendum as a means of surveying the willingness of voters within a legislative process. The case has led to a fierce confrontation between supporters of the referendum initiative and the local political class on the appropriateness of involving the population in defining the basic rules of the regional political system and thus on the very idea of democracy
