Abstract

The essay tries to investigate the path of the Italian women journalists by an accurate analysis of the latest data and research outputs and a careful consideration of the recent national changes, focusing in particular on the efforts made for a fair portrayal of women in the mass media. This has been done with conviction that the condition and the experience of the women journalists can have a strong impact on the contents and quality of information and also help women (as newsmakers and sources), otherwise systematically under-represented in the media, to play a central role in the news.
