Abstract
Data journalism is deeply rooted in an open culture that comes with increased transparency and participation. This paper analyzes whether and to what extent data journalism could ease access to data of the public administration, thus facilitating the free flow of information. Through collection and analysis of semi-structured interviews the study shows that data journalism in Italy still encounters structural and ethical problems that prevent it from achieving its full potential to promote greater transparency in terms of open data and open government.
