Abstract
"Data journalism" is growing also in Italy. The research investigates its production practices. It is based on semi-structured interviews with 10 Italian data journalists. The paper analysis particularly the collection phase. It means studying the relationship between journalists and public administration that should provide the most part of data that journalists need. The paper discusses a typology of accessibility and availability of data and how journalists deal with them, particularly in order to access closed data. The research question is whether those practices enhance journalists' autonomy and strengthen their position towards sources.
