Abstract
In the last few years journalists and statisticians of public administrations issuing official data have found a promising ground of dialogue in statistical storytelling. This communication approach aims to use narrative techniques in order to facilitate the understanding of numbers, those in traditional format as well as Open Data. The cooperation between journalists and statisticians in the field of statistical storytelling can help the two professional categories to overcome their respective communication limits, gaining credibility. The use of stories to communicate data effectively, furthermore, can represent a chance for journalists and statisticians to make common cause in defense of the public good of official statistics. In this perspective, the experts of words and the experts of numbers can be allies in enhancing the right of access to official figures, indispensable for citizens to participate in the democratic life.
