Abstract

Public service broadcasting license fee raison d’être and Italian events are recalled here from the 1938 institutive law to the recent changes. The mixed – advertising/public funds – financing revenues structure of Public Service Media is also considered in the European context making comparisons between the choices in funding PSM systems of the main European countries as UK, France, Germany. Their last years data are displayed and compared with Rai’s, the Italian PS Broadcasting company. The recent law provision to give a part of the license fee revenue paid by citizens to economic and social subjects other than PSB company is stressed.
