Abstract
The authors aim to illustrate a methodology for analysing the social workers' competence. The model has been experimented on 500 social workers of the Turin province in order to foresee the training needs. The achieved results suggest various applications. Specifically the analysis of perceived gap between social workers cur- rent competence (knowledge, skills, behaviours) and needed competence in order to reach an excellent performance, could become an useful tool to improve work organization and human resources management. The analysis highlights also the job profiles differences related to environment features and social services strategies in the different territories, showing the directions for social policies investments.
