Abstract

Cancer diagnosis has a tragic impact on a patient and his/her family because of the awareness of pain and possible death due to oncologic illness. Psychological and social helps are very important in the care of a patient suffering from cancer. Oncologic social worker cares for the patient psychological and social wellness during therapy and he/she also supports families if they need. Iris is a voluntary association in Molise and provides psychological and social assistance to women ill with cancer and their families. Iris main activities are to provide a play centre to ill people children, a comfortable environment, a library for ill women, free wigs and information and research in order to improve the quality of life of oncologic patients.
