Abstract
The article explores the possibility to apply the main categories of Martha Nussbaum's capability approach to the study of the empowerment processes of women who have experienced different kinds of violence. In so doing, after reviewing the main characteristics of the capability approach and the key concepts of «empowerment» and «resilience», it discusses the opportunity and benefits of using this new framework in the analysis of gender violence and introduces a series of articles adopting this interpretative perspective.
