Abstract
Sexting is a common sexual behavior among adolescents that consists in sending and receiving sexual pictures and texts. This behavior could have a negative impact on psychological health. This review follows the PRISMA statement and focuses on the analysis of the variables that can affect sexting behaviors and on the potential negative effects associated with them. 115 articles were retrieved from Scopus electronic databases and other 21 were identified through google scholar. 54 article were selected for this review. Thanks to a qualitative analysis six typologies of variables associated with sexting were identified: 1) personality characteristics; 2) internalizin symptoms; 3) externalizing symptoms; 4) gender stereotypes; 5) cyberbullying; 6) parenting style.
