Abstract
After a short review of recent studies on the behavioural and neurobiological characteristics of Down Syndrome (DS), we present experimental data on a sample of 34 youngadults with DS (mean age = 27 years and 7 months). The results confirm the presence of a selective deficit of verbal memory and grammatical skills in comparison with the level of cognitive functioning. Lexical abilities and adaptive competencies appeared to be areas of relative strength in the behavioural profile of our subjects.
