Abstract

The goal of this study is to investigate the relationship between the experimentation of emotions within certain relational conditions and the substances use. Furthermore, we tried to point out what aspects of parental and friend relationships are related to a different emotional attitude towards substances use. The sample is constituted by 208 adolescents of both gender, aged from 14 to 19. The results (based on principal component analysis, linear and hierarchic regression) showed the presence of two emotional dimensions: the rigorousness and the impulsiveness. A strong relationship was found between high rigorousness, low impulsiveness, low substance use, parental control and support, friends' control and friend's disapproval of substance use.
