Abstract
The aim of the present study was to try to discriminate between different components of executive functions on the basis of two tests: the WCST, which is often used to assess executive function deficits, and a version of the dual-task test. The results showed the existence of at least three components of executive functions. These are the ability to maintain a criterion for an extended period of time, the ability to disengage from a goal that is no longer correct, and the ability to auto-generate an action sequence.
